What is GAP?

What is GAP?

GAP stands for Guidance Assistance Program. Our purpose is to give children a sense of belonging, to cultivate their strengths, and to equip them with the skills needed to solve problems and build friendships. The projects we do in the GAP playroom are designed to foster qualities of service, leadership, teamwork, and personal best.

Our door is always open to parents. We rely on their knowledge and presence as we work together with children and teachers to shape a plan that uniquely fits each child.

Who is eligible for GAP?

A limited amount of students participate in GAP. Children are selected through a screening process, which identifies a child’s mood and attitude in the classroom. Teacher recommendations and parent requests are also considered. If you think your child might benefit from such a program, talk to their teacher about the possibility.

Where do students meet?

A special classroom or space has been set aside. It is typically stocked with art supplies, cooperative games, and materials that allow exploration of gifts and talents. Cooking, science, puppetry and drama are just a few of the areas we explore.

How often do students go to GAP?

Students generally go to the GAP resource room for 30-45minutes per week. Instructors will also work with their students within their classrooms.

What is the role of the GAP parent?

Parents are full partners in developing their children’s GAP program. We will contact them weekly and look forward to working with them to identify their children’s strengths and needs.

How will a child expect to benefit from GAP?

Each child will be able to:

Anything else?

We are a link to community services like the local library, the Family Resource Center, and Aldrich Library, and United Services. GAP and Aldrich Library collaborate to carry out science, literacy, and puppetry programs.
