Business & Finance Department Courses
Computer Applications Length 1/2 year Credit 1/2
This course is required of all incoming freshmen. The course will train the students to use the keyboard correctly. The fundamentals of word processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint and career awareness will be covered.
Accounting I Length 1 year Credit 1
This course enables the student to understand and appreciate accounting through the presentation of the basic principles and concepts of accounting. It is a course that present basic accounting principles that can be applied to both business and non-business applications. It is offered to juniors and seniors. The student needs to have successfully completed two years of math in the Math Department. This course may satisfy one year of the three math requirements.
Accounting II Length 1 year Credit 1
This course is designed to reinforce the accounting concepts and procedures learned in Accounting I and to further the students' understanding and use of a variety of accounting procedures and documents. It provides skills needed for entry-level employment as well as a foundation for post-secondary study in accounting or other business areas. It is offered to seniors who have successfully completed Accounting I.
Advanced Computer Applications Length 1/2 year Credit 1/2
This course is designed to attain proficiency in two phases of Microsoft Office using Excel and Access. The fundamentals of the database and the spreadsheet will be taught. Learning these fundamentals is helpful for personal as well as school use. This course is offered to sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Successful completion of Computer Applications is required.
Business English Length 1 year Credit 1
This course is offered to juniors and seniors. It stresses effective communication, both oral and written, through the study of grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and expression of numbers in written communications. Emphasis is placed on letter writing techniques, reading comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, and proper speaking techniques. This may satisfy one year of the 4 English requirements.
Business Math Length 1 year Credit 1
This course is offered to juniors and seniors. It covers personal and business applications of basic math that are necessary to succeed as knowledgeable consumers and workers. Successful completion of 2 math credits is required. This may satisfy one year of the 3 math requirements.
Business Law/Economics Length 1 year Credit 1
This course is designed to give both college bound and business juniors and seniors an orientation to economics and business law. Students participate in the stock market game.
Word Processing Length 1/2 Credit 1/2
This course will acquaint students with word processing applications in offices using Microsoft Office. Hands-on experience is given on computers. Successful completion of Keyboarding is required.
Marketing Length 1 year Credit 1
This course will cover a range of topics. Marketing theory as well as application will be presented to give a solid understanding of the different roles that marketing plays in retail, wholesale, service, and manufacturing companies. This course is offered to juniors and seniors.
Keyboarding Length 1/2 Credit 1/2
Keyboarding is open to all students in the sophomore, junior, and seniors years who have successfully completed Computer Applications. The course reviews the mastery of the keyboard and proper typing techniques. The course also covers the theory and practice necessary to type routine correspondences, reports, and business applications.
