PREFACE
The Plainfield High School student handbook is intended as reference for parents and students regarding rules, regulations, procedures, offerings and services of Plainfield High School. It would be impractical to distribute all national, state and local education policies due to their scope and volume. The Plainfield High School handbook is a digest of rules and procedures that most commonly affect students in their daily lives at school. The material in the handbook is not intended to supercede or diminish any board of education policy or negotiated contract and may be revised without notice.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY AFFIRMATIVE ACTION POLICY
It is the policy of the Plainfield Board of Education that no person shall be excluded from participation in, denied the benefits of or otherwise be discriminated against under any program, including employment, because of race, color, religion, creed, sex, age, national origin, ancestry martial status, sexual orientation, mental retardation, and past/present history of mental disorder, or learning and/or physical disability. This policy is based on and is consistent with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title IX of the 1972 Education Amendments. All complaints shall be addressed in writing by the Board designated compliance officer and he/she shall be responsible for investigation of all complaints. Upon investigation the compliance office shall effectuate any changes deemed necessary to eliminate any discriminatory practices and shall inform the complainant in writing of his/her actions within thirty (30) days of the receipt of such complaint. If the complaint is not satisfied with the actions of the compliance officer, within twenty (20) days the complainant may appeal the actions of the compliance officer in writing to the Board of Education. The remedies are necessary to eliminate the practices deemed discriminatory. The Board shall notify the complainant in writing of its decision within five (5) days after such hearing.
Schools Coordinate for Title IX, ADA, Race, Color, National Origin, Gender Equity and 504: The compliance officer is Mr. James Blair.

ACCIDENTS
A student who suffers an accident in school, on school grounds or on the way to and from school, must report the circumstances immediately to the Principal’s Office. The student will be provided first aid by the school nurse or other qualified persons in the absence of the school nurse. Additional medical attention will be arranged if circumstances appear to warrant it, however the school will not be financially responsible for the medical expenses beyond the first aid and liability insurance coverage carried by the Board of Education.
Accident report forms, for both insurance carried by the Board of Education and student insurance carried by the parent through the school, may be obtained from the school nurse and/or Main Office. Students who, because of religious beliefs, are not to receive medical attention in the event of an accident must have previously filed a statement to this effect with the nurse.
