DIVERSITY CLUB

MOSAIC is an interdistrict Diversity grant program funded by the CT. State Dept. of Ed. and facilitated by EASTCONN.MOSIAC is an experiential learning opportunity that will bring middle school and high school students together in addressing authentic, value laden problems.  Students will identify a school or community problem that requires research, creativity and inventive solutions: students develop action plans which action teams implement.  Some of the activities planned for this year include correspondence with students from other schools, writing activities or field experiences with other schools.

Events  

Oct. 15, 2005  Homeless Awareness- Raises money to buy daily necessities for the Women's Shelter in Danielson.

Oct. 21, 2005  Fright Fest 2005 – NHS sponsored Halloween Dance to fundraise for our annual trip.  There will be a costume contest with prizes.  Admission is $7.00 or $6.00 with a donation of a canned good. November – 2005- Your Name Gourmet Fundraiser Help the NHS raise money!!!!!  Purchase a variety of condiments with our own personalized label. Products include gourmet salad dressing, ketchup, sauces, mustard, seasoning, spices, butter, salsa and gift sets.

 

Natural Helpers

Advisor Melanie Ericson

Meeting:  Second Tuesday of the month in library

Natural Helpers receive training in the fall.  They are the “eyes and ears” of the school to help keep things safe if they hear things.  Some of their duties include: peer tutoring, serving as the “welcome wagon” for all new students by providing them with a tour, serving on student panels, working with PCS and Sterling 8th graders to assist with their transition to high school, providing necessary referrals for their peers during crisis times, assisting with the New Student Orientation in late September, organizing and participating in the Freshman First Day by giving tours and putting on student panels, and 1:1 Listening support.

POETRY CLUB

This club is not only for poetry lovers but for lovers of all arts.  Poetry written by students right here in Plainfield and famous authors are read at each meeting.  We discuss arts of all sorts, including duct tape prom dresses and art schools in the area.  This poetry is not limited to lines on a page!

Meet Thursday in the PHS library

The Student Council is a leadership group that is involoved in school and community projects.  One of our biggest community service projects is sponsoring two blood drives a year for the Red Cross. A new community service project for the year may be Pennies For leukemia & Lymphoma.  For the school community, the homecoming queen nomination and dance are a huge event for the council.  Additionally, we are involved in Spirit Week, pep rallies and different activities like that

 

Theater Department……. Panther Players

They meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays

  If permission is granted the first show will be a musical and auditions will be in early December. Auditions will be open to the entire student body not just the members of the club.
