Plainfield High School’s Physics class took a field trip to TRUMPF laser manufacturing in Farmington Connecticut. Students learned how lasers work, and watched machines that were worth over a half a million dollars cut metal. The facilities tour was led by Ms. Annette Doyle, training manager for TRUMPF. The trip was part of the Photonics program in the high school. The program includes a summer course in Photonics at Three Rivers Community College. Last summer, five Plainfield students participated in the summer course on Photonics at TRCC. New England Board of Higher Education is involved in the program and funded an internship at TRUMPF for Plainfield’s Physics teacher, Mark Kondracky. The trip was funded by a Tech-prep grant. See your guidance counselor or Mr. Kondracky for more information on Photonics.
