November 2008
Dear Students
and Families,
As the weather gets colder and we move into the “holiday
season,” it is important that we educate our kids
on what holidays mean and why it is we celebrate them. Veterans’
Day, for instance, is more than just a day off from school
— it is a day on which we honor our soldiers, both
past and present. Thanksgiving is an opportunity to gather
with family and friends and to take some time off, but is
also a time to point out the gifts in our lives and to consider
helping out other, less fortunate people. Look for ways
to involve your children in efforts that help others, whether
it be through the donation of time, food items, money, etc.
They can make a difference. Speaking of feasts, parents
are reminded to make sure that their children are receiving
proper nutrition at home — a balanced diet including
fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, and dairy products.
Fatty and sugary foods taste really good, but should be
limited. Eating properly makes a HUGE positive difference
for kids! Enjoy November!
Sincerely,
Mark Levanto
