I hope your family was able to enjoy the very warm summer season. Did all that rain help your children grow? There was certainly plenty of time to read this summer. All of us at Shepard Hill Elementary School are very excited to get our new school year started. Listed below are the dates for the open houses, dates for the start of school, bussing information, and student/ family current status information sheets. Please note that when visiting our school for any function, additional parking is available in the ballfield parking lot just north of our school exit way on Shepard Hill Road. There is an opening/gate to allow access to our facility.
Your child’s first day of school is based upon their grade level.
- If your child is in Kindergarten through Grade Three, their first day of school is Wednesday, August 30, 2017.
- If your child is in our Pre-Kindergarten program, their first day of school is Thursday, August 31, 2017
Please note that both days are full days of school.
Shepard Hill Elementary School also has two different Open House dates. If your child is in Kindergarten through Grade Three, Open House will be held on Monday August 28, 2017. Classroom visits will be by grade level following the schedule below. I would also like to invite students and their families in grades 1-3 to the cafeteria for a brief orientation also on the schedule below.

For the families of students in the AM session the doors will be open at the Pre-K / Kindergarten Entrance from 10:00 AM -11:00 AM. For families of students in the PM session doors will be open at the Pre-K / Kindergarten Entrance from 2:00 PM -3:00 PM.
Next, enclosed is your child’s bus information. It is important that you make sure that the pickup and drop off addresses are correct. If you find that the information is incorrect, please contact our office immediately at 860-564-6432. All students should wear the lanyard with this information during the first two weeks of school. This will help bus drivers and staff identify children and provides staff quick access to classroom and transportation information to minimize any confusion. For children in Pre-K and Kindergarten, after the first two weeks of school please attach the plastic holder with the bus information to their backpack.
Also enclosed with this letter is your child’s Student Current Status Update form. Please review the information for accuracy. If there is information that needs to be changed please cross out the information that is incorrect and write in the correct information. It must be signed and returned to our office even if no changes are made.
During the first week of school Mrs. LaBonte and Mrs. Sweet will be distributing an information packet to all families. This packet will include the up to date 2017-2018 Student-Parent Handbook. The policies and procedures that we follow are intended to promote a safe learning environment for all. All district policies adopted by the Plainfield Board of Education can also be viewed at http://www.plainfieldschools.org/page.cfm?p=2902
Our school staff is anxiously awaiting the arrival of you children’s happy and smiling faces. Please say hello and re-introduce yourself to our staff when you are here. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at 564-6432 or email Mr. Nagel at firstname.lastname@example.org.
From the entire staff at Shepard Hill Elementary School, WELCOME!!
Thank you for again sharing your children with us this year!
