Fifth Grade Transition Information
May 1, 2018
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Plainfield Central Middle School. As your child prepares to transition to the middle school level, we wish to inform you of several important transition activities that have been planned.
In the past, we have organized a spring parent informational session. This gathering was often difficult for parents/guardians to attend as this time tends to be busy. Please understand that our welcome back session in August will provide much of the same information we typically shared in the spring.
Currently, our middle school counselors are scheduled to visit each class at Plainfield Memorial School during the months of May and June. Included in these visitations will be a presentation of common questions and answers provided by current middle school students.
In early June, all grade five students are scheduled to visit the Central School for a walk-through of our complex. This visit allows students, along with their current classmates and teachers, to receive a personal welcome and introduction to the building during regular school hours.
Looking ahead to Thursday, August 23rd, from the hours of 4:00-6:00 p.m., we will be hosting a Grade Six Meet and Greet. Incoming grade six students (Purple team @ 4:00 and Yellow Team @ 5:00) along with their parents/guardians will receive an orientation to the building from the administrative, support, and teaching staff teams. Student schedules are slated to be mailed out in mid-August and this is how you’ll know to which team your child has been assigned for the 18-19 school year. This orientation will benefit the students in a variety of ways. First and foremost, only incoming grade six students will have access to our orientation, which creates a personal connection with our school teams. Secondly, classroom visitations with our 6th grade teaching staff will take place. Thirdly, school-wide tours will be provided and locker practice can and usually does occur.
We look forward to meeting you and working with you and your children during your Plainfield Central Middle School “Royal” years. Should you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to call.
